iC2 CCTV, one of the UK’s leading independent CCTV installation specialists, recently hosted a wireless CCTV open day in conjunction with wireless connectivity partner 802 Global - at Ealing Town Hall in London.

The event was attended by an invited audience of CCTV control room managers and surveillance specialists from local authorities, housing associations, stadia and leisure management, transport and police authorities.

iC2’s Managing Director - Andrew Whelan opened proceedings. In his introduction, he explained how iC2 had successfully completed a number of wireless IP CCTV installations for several clients including Maidstone Borough Council, Redbridge, Hounslow and Walsall.

Tim Close, 802 Global’s Sales and Marketing Director then explained the benefits of wireless IP CCTV over traditional analogue links. He said: “An IP CCTV system digitally links cameras and control station together on an IP (Internet Protocol) network. The system can easily be integrated into an existing IP network, allowing easy access to video data from networked computers, or even remote access over the internet. Digital footage offers significant advantages in terms of speed, flexibility and storage capacity.”

He continued: “An added benefit is that wireless systems are quick and easy to deploy and offer significant advantages over traditional cabling options which often require expensive and disruptive road digging programmes.”

Also attending the open day were ACTi Corporation, a leading manufacturer of CCTV cameras. Their mega pixel cameras attracted a lot of attention. So too did Genetec, who showed their integrated software platforms.

Following the presentations, those attending were invited to view Ealing Councils CCTV control room to see wireless IP CCTV in action.

Last year, iC2 completed a major video and voice over IP CCTV system for Ealing Homes, one of London’s largest providers of social housing to monitor locations with concerns about crime and anti-social behaviour.

Live pictures from one of Ealing's housing estates and a local community centre are fed back to the central CCTV control room at Ealing Council. Neil Howard, Ealing’s CCTV Manager gave invited guests a tour of the control room. They were able to see the system working and ask questions.

Summing up the day, iC2’s Managing Director Andrew Whelan said: “The open day was an unqualified success. With the cooperation of our partners and the kind support of Ealing Council, we’ve been able to demonstrate in a practical way, the many benefits of wireless IP CCTV management systems.”
